An academy dedicated to the younger generation

For musicians playing period instruments

Focusing on period instruments, Insula camerata is aimed at young instrumentalists at the start of their careers, with the aim of perfecting their skills as orchestra musicians and facilitating their entry into the professional world.

Insula camerata will bring together 32 musicians: 20 string players (violin, viola, cello, double bass) and 12 wind players (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet).

The academy musicians will be committed for two seasons: 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 (3 to 4 projects per season).

Two years of music and learning

On the program
  • Artistic improvement and enhanced orchestral practice in a professional setting of the highest standards.
  • A double-orchestra cycle centered on Ludwig van Beethoven, featuring performances and recordings of his Symphonies No. 3, 5, 7, and 9, by Insula orchestra and Insula camerata artists.
  • 2 to 4 annual concerts, both in France and internationally, as Insula camerata, an autonomous ensemble under the mentorship of the soloists of Insula orchestra.
  • Participation in Insula orchestra’s tours and recordings.
  • Acquaintance with cultural mediation practices, a key aspect of a musician’s career.
  • Personalized mentoring for each academy member by their section leader.
  • Opportunities for continued collaboration with partner institutions, supporting the academy musicians’ future musical and professional development.
2025/2026–2026/2027 Promotion

For this first edition, which spans the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 seasons, 32 instrumentalists aged 18 to 30 were selected by a distinguished international jury during auditions held in Paris, Brussels, Geneva and New York. The selection process welcomed candidates from conservatories in more than 16 European countries, as well as the United States, bringing together representatives from all continents and a wide variety of nationalities.

During this programme, the young musicians selected will deepen their understanding of the historical interpretation of Beethoven’s great symphonic works and, as an independent ensemble, will explore the Baroque repertoire — notably Vivaldi and Handel — as well as Mozart’s repertoire.
