Insula orchestra regularly works with illustrators and/or comic-book artists to offer a graphic reading of the life and vision of major composers. To mark the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, Insula orchestra and Lucie Albrecht pay tribute to the illustrious composer. Because Beethoven was not only a composer of genius, we asked Lucie Albrecht to illustrate the contradictory man, beset by failed loves — a man who stubbornly took on the “fatherhood” of his nephew Karl and who battled the worst affliction that can strike a musician: deafness. Facing the towering Beethoven, certain of the prophetic scope of his work, stands a shy Ludwig, a man beset by failed loves and stormy friendships. A life illustrated by Lucie Albrecht.
