Thamos by Yannis Kokkos

In June 2018, we performed Mozart’s Thamos, King of Egypt at La Seine Musicale with accentus and Laurence Equilbey, in a staging by Yannis Kokkos.
Mozart distinguished himself in both sacred and secular music. He composed his Litanies of the Venerable Altar at just sixteen, for the election of the new prince-elector of Salzburg: the famous Colloredo. A year later, with Thamos, King of Egypt, he wrote incidental music that foreshadows The Magic Flute: the same Egyptian setting, the same symbol of reason against obscurantism, the same Masonic influences. Leading Insula orchestra, Laurence Equilbey sets out to reveal these two early works that already display all of Mozart’s genius, in an exceptional visual creation by Yannis Kokkos.
