Lucio Silla by Rita Cosentino
Programme
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Lucio Silla
The opening of the Mozart Maximum Festival at La Seine Musicale with this early work that overturns the conventions of opera seria. In the Roman dictator Lucio Silla’s passion for Giunia, might the teenage Wolfgang have rediscovered the romantic stirrings he was living through at the time? Hence this inimitable blend of depth and lightness, intensity and grace. This score, which foreshadows Romanticism, is here carried by countertenor Franco Fagioli, a worthy heir to the castrati, in a staging by Rita Cosentino.
