Freischütz by Cie 14:20
Programme
Souls sold to the devil, the conjuring of spirits, enchanted bullets: such is the fantastical world of the first German Romantic opera, composed by Carl Maria von Weber in 1821. A lyric drama that owes much to Beethoven’s Fidelio and that would go on to influence Wagner’s Tannhäuser — a masterly work with sensual colours and organic orchestration. A musical jewel for which Compagnie 14:20, a leading force of the “new magic” movement, crafts a visual and sensory setting, inviting the audience to question their relationship with the invisible and the unconscious. A production that would be revived the following season at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris.
Performances in March 2019.
