With the accentus choir, Insula orchestra invites us to a great moment of French music and spirituality. In his moving Requiem, Gabriel Fauré expresses a serene vision of death, questioned on stage by Mat Collishaw’s video work. While harmony reigns in this musical masterpiece, it is dystopia that dominates the video. Entitled Sky Burial — in reference to the Tibetan funeral rite that entrusts the bodies of the dead to vultures — it denounces our relationship with nature. The concert is completed by Charles Gounod’s Saint François d’Assise, whose manuscript was rediscovered in the 1990s: a limpid, pared-down score that touches the heart.
Performances in February 2023 at La Seine Musicale.
