Egmont with Séverine Chavrier

Beethoven and Goethe: two geniuses brought together around Egmont, the hero who liberated the provinces of the Netherlands in the 16th century. Goethe drew a thrilling play from the story. The emancipation of peoples, the individual facing their destiny, political and religious stakes: these themes could only appeal to Beethoven, who seized upon them for one of his most brilliant overtures and sets of incidental music. Conductor Laurence Equilbey and director Séverine Chavrier convey all the richness and relevance of the work, imagining a staged version blending music with live and filmed theatre.
