Vincent Dumestre and his ensemble Le Poème Harmonique invite us to 16th century Naples, recreating the vibrancy of the processions for the feast of the Virgin Mary. The theatrical and touching Stabat Mater, completed a mere few months before the composer’s death, is associated to pieces of oral tradition according to historical customs, and the concerto of another Neapolitan, Francesco Durante.
