The Requiem at its summit.
Placed under the sign of elevation and emotion, this evening opens with the music of Johann Christoph Bach—one of Johann Sebastian’s great-uncles, a composer imbued with spirituality and contemplation. A path that leads almost naturally to Mozart’s Requiem.
A mythical work left unfinished, the Requiem sublimely crowns this spiritual journey. Composed in the last months of the composer’s life, it stands as a deeply moving meditation on death, combining the dramatic power of visions of the Last Judgement with the consoling tenderness of hope.
To carry this masterpiece to its highest summit, Laurence Equilbey brings together two exceptional ensembles: accentus, the choir she founded over thirty years ago and which has established itself as one of Europe’s leading choral references, and the Concentus Musicus Wien—a legendary ensemble founded by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, a worldwide reference in period-instrument performance. A vocal lineup featuring Mélissa Petit, Agata Schmidt, Michael Schade, and Matthias Winckhler completes this exceptional evening.
This concert is performed on period instruments.
