Freischütz
Show in German with French subtitles
programme
Souls sold to the devil, invocations of spirits, and enchanted ballets were ingredients of the fantasy worlds created in 1821 by Carl Maria von Weber in Freischütz, the first Romantic German opera, a lyrical drama that owes much to Beethoven’s Fidelio and that would be a later influence for Wagner’s Tannhaüser. A masterly work with sensual colours and organic orchestration. A musical jewel for which Compagnie 14:20, trailblazer in the “new magic” movement, has crafted a visual and sensorial setting, inviting the audience to question its relationship with the invisible and the subconscious. The production will be on the following season’s bill at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris.
Coproduction Théâtre de Caen, Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg, Opéra de Rouen Normandie, Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Cie 14:20, Insula orchestra.
