À propos

Bach and Telemann illuminate this anniversary evening under the baton of György Vashegyi. With Baroque brilliance and choral fervor, a concert of contrast and splendor.

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Johann Sebastian! The Orfeo Orchestra and the Purcell Choir celebrate Bach with a programme of cantatas composed exactly 300 years ago!
In this repertoire of inexhaustible richness, Bach reveals his highest inspiration “to the greater glory of God” — and to the great delight of our ears. These masterpieces will be paired with others by one of Bach’s close friends, Georg Philipp Telemann, written during the same period.
The evening unfolds under the aegis of these two great masters of sacred music and opens with the presentation of a rediscovered work by Franz Tůma, a Bohemian-born composer whose sacred music was highly esteemed in the eighteenth century.

This concert is performed on period instruments.
