À propos
From a fiery Beethoven to a twilight Rachmaninov, this concert explores the full richness of Romanticism.
Beethoven’s concertos hold no secrets for the gifted pianist Jan Lisiecki. Hasn’t he already recorded the full set (a jubilant performance!)? Alongside the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and its music director Thomas Søndergård, he performs the Piano Concerto No. 3, a work of shadows and light, and one of the earliest models of the Romantic style. The orchestra completes the program with Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, composed after the Russian composer’s emigration to the United States. Brilliant and inventive, they reveal a man in the twilight of his life—yet at the height of his artistry.
