19th century Italians were regular visitors to Paris, a city they visited in search of glory and inspiration. A stay that paid handsome dividends for Rossini, who in turn invited his compatriot, Mercadante. The latter composed his Sinfonia su motivi dello Stabat Mater di Rossini. As for Cherubini, a large part of his career was spent in the French capital where, in 1816, the year in which he also composed his C minor Requiem in memory of Louis XVI, he notably became superintendent of the chapel of Louis XVIII. The exuberant conductor Leonardo García Alarcón and tenor Maxim Mironov, both connoisseurs of this repertory, celebrate the Franco-Italian connection.
