The Italian tour was a prerequisite for any 19th century musician who had everything to gain from a first-hand experience of the landscapes of the home of opera. It was here in Venice that Wagner repeatedly found inspiration. In Rome, Liszt filled his tank with deep emotions, and it was to the Italian scherzo form that Chopin owed a number of his most brilliant compositions. Each of the three musicians having lived in France, brought Italian music to a broader market, notably through their transcriptions for keyboard. German-Italian pianist Sophie Pacini is ideally placed to interpret this European brilliance and pay a special tribute to an Italian composer that she loves particularly: Luigi Dallapiccola.
