It was in the British capital that Mozart – not yet 10 – composed his first symphonies. It was here too that he heard Johann Christian Bach’s opera, Adriano in Siria, subsequently writing ten ornamental cadences for its aria Cara la dolce fiamma. It was in London too that Joseph Haydn learned of Mozart’s death and premiered his Symphony n° 99, one of the cycle of so-called “London symphonies”. The Mozartists, conducted by Ian Page, will be crossing the English Channel to bring the story to Paris.
