La Dolce Vita, The Godfather… the music from these screen classics is as famous as the films themselves. In France, it is a less well-known fact that their composer, Nino Rota, was particularly partial to the banda, a repertory associated with south-west Italy and its ferias, so much so that he wrote widely in the vein and founded an orchestra: la Banda di Ruvo di Puglia, led today by trumpeter and composer, Pino Minafra, a native of the Puglia region. The programme includes a tribute to Nino Rota, his mentor at the Bari Conservatory, revisiting various works, along with arias from operas by Puccini, Verdi and Bellini.
