Beethoven, the emperor

Beethoven, the emperor

2h with intermission

Ludwig van Beethoven
Concerto n° 5 “Emperor”
Felix Mendelssohn
Symphony n° 5 “Reformation”

What is it about the number 5? For Beethoven, undoubtedly. His Piano Concerto n° 5, “Emperor”, has become one of the most popular in all Classical music. With its larger-than-life magnitude and vitality, it has also been a lucky charm for David Kadouch who performed it on his highly successful debut album. Mendelssohn’s Fifth Symphony pays tribute to a seminal text of Lutheranism, the Augsburg confession, notably borrowing and adapting one of Luther’s chorales. Hence it’s sobriquet “The Reformation”.

26 January 2020 - 16h00
