A key moment in Schubert’s musical career, the Missa Solemnis in A flat is a break with his four previous masses. Written with more freedom, it bears witness to the 25-year-old’s surprising maturity. Laurence Equilbey and Insula orchestra echo the work with his Symphony n° 4, so-called “Tragic”, in which the composer deploys a sense of full-on drama at the other end of the spectrum from the intimacy of the Lieder.
