ÎLOT BEETHOVEN248 :
It is hard to believe that Beethoven wrote his 5th Piano Concerto when he was already starting to lose his hearing. Grandiose and intimate, heroic, and powerful, complete with cannon shots, there is so much to hear in this score, penned under Bonaparte’s bombardments. This foundation stone for the Romantic concerto will be accompanied by the Seventh Symphony, a return towards a form closer to Classicism, but still strikingly Dionysian in inspiration and rhythmically elaborate. Two works on a par with the sublime.
