Chef d'orchestre, directrice musicale d'accentus et d’Insula orchestra, Laurence Equilbey est aujourd'hui reconnue pour son exigence et son ouverture artistique. Son travail depuis 15 ans lui donne une place de choix parmi les chefs symphoniques, recherchés notamment pour leur expertise dans l’oratorio ou l’opéra.
Parmi les réalisations importantes, citons Cenerentola de Rossini au Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Medeamaterial de Pascal Dusapin au Festival Musica, Les Tréteaux de Maître Pierre et L'Amour Sorcier de Manuel de Falla, à l’Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie. Elle dirige en 2009 Albert Herring de Britten, à l’Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie et à l’Opéra Comique. En 2010/2011, elle dirige notamment Freischütz de Weber à l’Opéra de Toulon et La Flûte enchantée de Mozart à l’Opéra d’Avignon.
En résidence à l'Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie, Laurence Equilbey dirige plusieurs projets avec son orchestre, notamment cette saison, les dernières Ballades de Schumann. Avec accentus à la Cité de la musique à Paris où elle poursuit son compagnonnage, elle dirige en 2010 le Brussels Philharmonic, accentus et le Chœur de la Radio Flamande dans Le Paradis et la Péri de Schumann. Ses activités symphoniques la conduisent également à diriger les orchestres de Lyon, Nice, Picardie, Lille, Pays de la Loire, Bucarest, Varsovie, Café Zimmermann, Concerto Köln, Akademie für alte Musik Berlin (La Création de Haydn en avril 2012 à la Salle Pleyel), etc. Elle est invitée en juillet 2012 au festival de Salzbourg à diriger la Camerata Salzburg avec accentus dans la Messe en ut mineur de Mozart.
Depuis 2009/2010, elle est avec accentus, artiste associée à l’Ensemble orchestral de Paris, qu'elle retrouve dans un programme Mendelssohn (« Nuit fantastique ») à la Cité de la musique en mars 2012. Laurence Equilbey est également artiste associée au Grand Théâtre de Provence et Directrice artistique et pédagogique du département pour jeunes chanteurs du Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris.
Avec accentus, elle continue d'exprimer le grand répertoire de la musique vocale et soutient la création contemporaine. Leurs nombreux enregistrements sont largement salués par la critique. Elle reçoit un Disque d’or en 2008 pour « Transcriptions » qui s’est vendu à plus de 130 000 exemplaires dans le monde.
En 2012, Laurence Equilbey fonde Insula orchestra, une nouvelle phalange sur instruments d’époque consacrée au répertoire classique et pré-romantique.
Laurence Equilbey a étudié la musique à Paris, Vienne et Londres, et la direction notamment avec Eric Ericson, Denise Ham, Colin Metters et Jorma Panula.

French conductor Laurence Equilbey is known as the founder, artistic director, and principle conductor of the critically acclaimed chamber choir accentus and Insula orchestra. A versatile artist, she is also much in demand in the symphonic, oratorio and opera genres where her conducting is known for its demanding and high artistic standards. Over the last 15 years she has gained critical respect from both the media and her peers.
Her more important opera conducting projects have included Rossini’s La Cenerentola at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Pascal Dusapin’s Medeamaterial at Festival Musica (Strasbourg) and Manuel de Falla’s El retablo de Maese Pedro and El amor brujo at Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie. In 2009, she conducted Britten’s Albert Herring at Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie and at the Opéra Comique (Paris). For the 2010-2011 season, she conducted Weber’s Der Freischütz for Toulon Opera and Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte for Avignon Opera.
A regular guest artist at Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie, Laurence Equilbey conducts many projects with that orchestra, most notably this season Schumann’s ultimate Ballades. With accentus, she is privileged to be a partner with Paris’ two most important concert venues : Cité de la musique and Salle Pleyel. In 2010, Laurence Equilbey has conducted Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri with the Brussels Philharmonic, accentus and the Chœur de la Radio Flamande at Cité de la musique. Her other orchestral conducting includes working with the orchestras of Lyon, Nice, Picardie, Lille, Pays de la Loire, Bucarest, Varsovie, Café Zimmermann and Concerto Köln (Haydn’s The Creation at Salle Pleyel in April 2012), among others. In July 2012, she is invited to the Salzburg Festival to conduct Camerata Salzburg and accentus in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor.
Since 2009/2010 Laurence Equilbey and accentus have had an ongoing collaboration with the Ensemble orchestral de Paris, where projects of note include a Mendelssohn’s program (“Nuit Fantastique”) at Cité de la musique in march 2012. In addition, Laurence Equilbey is a guest conductor of the Grand Théâtre de Provence (Aix-en-Provence) as well as being artistic and educational director of the Department for Young Singers at the Paris Regional Conservatory.
As artistic director and principal conductor of accentus, she has programmed a large and varied repertoire of vocal music and has an ongoing commitment to contemporary compositions. Their many other recordings are widely acclaimed and they where awarded a “Disque d’Or” in 2008 for the CD “Transcriptions” (more than 130,000 copies sold worldwide).
In 2012, Laurence Equilbey created Insula orchestra, a new orchestra on period instruments
dedicated to classic and pre-romantic repertoire.
